Atalasoft Launches Scanning Component for the Microsoft .NET Framework

Atalasoft DotTwain™ - Native Microsoft .NET Acquisition for Web or Windows based applications

Westfield, MA USA — January 19, 2004 — Atalasoft, Inc., a leading provider of imaging components for developers, today released DotTwain for the Microsoft .NET Framework.  Atalasoft DotTwain is a 100% Managed .NET Windows Form component allowing fast capturing of digital images from scanners, cameras, and other TWAIN compatible devices. This ultra fast scanning component returns a .NET Bitmap object and has no dependencies other then the .NET Framework and TWAIN supporting hardware. It is intended for applications requiring a small footprint "no-touch" deployment over the web that do not require extensive image processing and viewing capabilities that our comprehensive imaging toolkits offer. “We have listened to our customer’s requests for the ability to scan images directly to a web server using ASP.NET,” said William Bither, President of Atalasoft, Inc. “DotTwain is the answer for those who wish to benefit from Microsoft .NET’s ‘no touch’ web deployment for a powerful and lightweight component that can automatically post scanned documents to a web server”

Atalasoft DotTwain gives everyday programmers an easy programming interface to a scanner or TWAIN compatible digital camera, also supporting the vast array of features available in the TWAIN 1.9 specification such as automatic document feeders, a custom scanning interface, the ability to specify a region of the image to scan, and much more. As with all Atalasoft products, licensing is runtime royalty free for client/desktop runtimes.

Due to the lack of many vendors fully supporting .NET in their advanced components, developers have begun to accept COM as part their .NET applications with no other alternatives. Using COM in .NET as many disadvantages including deployment, security, performance with interopobility, lack of true object oriented design, as well as the infamous "DLL Hell" which occurs when registering conflicting COM components into the registry. Atalasoft DotTwain fully adopts the Microsoft's .NET philosophy without any COM dependencies and with a modern object oriented programming model.

Soon to follow will be the DotImage Twain add-on using the same technology as DotTwain without web deployment capability and with a dependency on Atalasoft’s .NET imaging class library called DotImage. Complete Atalasoft DotTwain feature lists, licensing, pricing, and downloads are available now at www.atalasoft.com/components/DotTwain/.
