Atalasoft Announces Release of DotImage^® 2.1

Northampton, MA, USA. — April 26th, 2005 —Atalasoft, Inc., a leading provider of imaging components for developers, today released DotImage version 2.1 which includes several performance enhancements and additional features as well as the add-on modules for barcode reading, PDF rasterizing, JBIG2 compression and advanced JPEG2000 compression. The most comprehensive set of .NET imaging components available, DotImage offers developers photographic and document imaging for thin-client and thick-client applications. Licensing is runtime royalty free for Windows desktop applications.

Atalasoft's DotImage is a full-featured Microsoft .NET imaging toolkit for raster and document based imaging applications in .NET or ASP.NET. It also includes a codec add-on for reading and writing JPEG2000 images. The toolkit now includes image compression options via LuraTech's LuraWave JP2 and LuraDocument JBIG2 products. Still image compression product LuraWave JP2 is based on the open standard JPEG2000/Part1 and is ideally suited for web-based graphics, databases and mobile communications. LuraDocument JBIG2 compresses black/white content and allows both lossless and lossy compression, meeting a full range of quality and file size needs.

Based on the open imaging standard JPEG2000, the toolkit provides both Lossy and Lossless image compression, as well as a greater range of options in what images can be compressed and at what levels. For example, users can conduct region of interest compression to specify an area of the image with higher quality. The product also offers full metadata support.

New Features
Several new features and enhancements have been added for use in both thin-client and thick-client applications. These features include an improved TIFF codec with enhanced old style JPEG support, region of interest decoding, and 16-bit grayscale support; an improved thumbnail viewer component with virtual directory loading, and more programmatic control; an enhanced thin-client image viewer with new client-side scripting and remote invocatable methods giving full access to methods, properties, and image processing without the need to postback; a new command for high-performance conversion to bi-tonal format; a command to apply a color curve to an image emulating Adobe^® Photoshop^®; and added support for Tablet PC Ink Annotations in our annotations product, DotAnnotate.

New Add-on Modules
The DotImage BarcodeReader module is a full featured barcode recognition component which will recognize one of many 1-D and 2-D barcode symbologies in an image. This component fully integrates with DotImage and is available separately in three different editions: Code39 Only, All 1-D, and All 1-D and 2-D.

The DotImage PDFRasterizer module provides DotImage users the ability to view, print, and convert any PDF document. This component decodes PDF documents into raster images which seamlessly plugs into DotImage and associated image viewing components. Supports simple image only PDF's as well as complicated PDF's with vectors, text, and patterns. Extract the images out of the PDF, rasterize the vector objects to a new image, or render directly onto a printer.

The DotImage JPEG2000 Professional module is a high performance JPEG2000 codec which adds advanced JPEG2000 wavelet decompression and compression. Features include CMYK support, IPTC, XML, and UUID metadata, progressive decoding, region of interest encoding, and additional low level support not included in the DotImage JPEG2000 Standard codec.

The DotImage JBIG2 module is a high performance JBIG2 codec that adds high compression and decompression of 1-bit document images, achieving lossless and lossy compression greater than CCIT Group 4 compression. JBIG2 compression is an open standard and can compress bi-tonal images 2 - 5 times more than the same image compressed with the industry standard TIFF CCIT Group4 compression.
