Atalasoft Announces Release of OCR Toolkit for the DotImage® Platform

Powerful upgrade for .NET Imaging Toolkit provides OCR, Feature Additions, and Performance Enhancements

Northampton, MA, USA. - October 7th, 2005 - Atalasoft, Inc., a leading provider of imaging components for developers, today released DotImage version 3.0 which includes several performance enhancements and additional features as well as modules for Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The most comprehensive set of Microsoft .NET imaging components available, DotImage offers developers photographic and document imaging for thin-client and thick-client applications. Licensing is runtime royalty free for Windows desktop applications.

Atalasoft's DotImage is a full-featured .NET imaging toolkit for raster and document based imaging applications in .NET or ASP.NET. This release premiers DotImage OCR, a separately available add-on providing an object-oriented interface for Optical Character Recognition. Includes support for localizing regions, recognizing characters and words, and exporting to various formats. DotImage OCR is engine-independent and can be extended to work with any OCR library, as well as Atalasoft's separately available bundled toolkit, the DotImage OCR Expervision Engine. Its interface was developed by Atalasoft architects having significant experience developing object oriented and extensible programming interfaces for the document imaging industry.

"Our latest release of DotImage 3.0 and DotTwain 2.0 re-ensures our commitment to the document and photographic imaging industry with significant performance and feature enhancements," said William Bither, president of Atalasoft. "Our new extensible and engine-independent OCR represents a giant step in the industry giving enterprises the ability to switch OCR engines without changing any code, eliminating the heavy dependency on one particular OCR vendor, and establishing a framework for future innovations."

Included in DotImage 3.0 is the ability to examine, edit, and author proprietary image information such as Time Stamp, GPS, and manufacturer specific data. Also prominent is a new set of TIFF classes that allows insertion, re-ordering, and removal of pages in a multi-page document to be included in an application. This process is efficient, intuitive, and developer-friendly. These innovations have direct application in document management and photo archiving.

Accompanying the release of DotImage 3.0 is Atalasoft's updated DotTwain 2.0 component. DotTwain features fast capture of digital images and documents from scanners, cameras, and other TWAIN compatible devices. DotTwain 2.0 is a significant enhancement of the product. It provides the developer with comprehensive control over the image acquisition process.

This dual release provides developers with an integrated and highly supported .NET imaging platform. The DotImage OCR Module extends support for developing document imaging workflows, adding onto Atalasoft's rich product base including document cleanup algorithms, high compression codecs, barcode recognition, annotations, scanning, and PDF components.
