I think every image should be in the tiff format.  My contribution to get the rest of the world on board with this idea is a Dwg2Tiff converter.  It's a simple command line application, and you use it thusly:

C:\Program Files\Atalasoft\Dwg2Tiff_installer>CadCamDwg2Tiff <source CAD/DWG directory path> <output directory path> <Image resolution value>

Example:

CadCamDwg2Tiff  C:\myDwgFileDirectory C:\DirectoryWhereMyGeneratedTiff_ImagesGo 300
