12 AM to 12 AM
As inspired by the Fox television show, “House M.D.”, episode 6.13: “5 to 9”, we present a day in the life of Atalasoft’s Training & Support Manager:
12:00 AM: Fall asleep.
2:15 AM: Baby wakes up.
2:15 AM – 3:15 AM: Feed baby.
3:15 AM: Fall asleep on couch.
5:15 AM: Baby wakes up.
5:15 AM – 6:15 AM: Feed baby, check emails, play Sudoku on phone.
6:15 AM – 6:45 AM: Get dressed for the day. Change baby’s diaper. Get baby dressed for the day. Pack up computer and bottles for the baby.
6:45 AM: Leave for daycare.
6:45 AM – 7:15 AM: Drive to daycare.
7:15 AM – 7:30 AM: Try to leave baby at daycare. Stall as long as possible before leaving.
7:30 AM – 8:00 AM: Drive to work.
8:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Answer cases. Talk with engineers. Oversee support.
(9:30 AM – Realize I missed SCRUM meeting. D’oh.)
11:00 AM: Move computer to private location for Mommy stuff.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Mommy stuff, answer cases/oversee support.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Move computer back to desk. Lunch.
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Answer cases. Talk with engineers. Oversee support.
3:00 PM: Move computer to private location for Mommy stuff.
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Mommy stuff, answer cases/oversee support.
4:00 PM – 4:15 PM: Answer a few last minute emails/cases/questions. Pack up computer.
4:15 PM – 4:45 PM: Leave work, drive to daycare.
4:45 PM – 5:00 PM: Pick up baby. Snuggle baby. Briefly fantasize about winning the lottery.
5:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Drive home.
5:30 PM – 5:45 PM: Let dogs out into yard for business and run.
5:45 PM – Set up computer at home.
5:45 PM – 7:00 PM: Play with baby, feed baby, change baby, answer emails, look at cases.
7:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Watch the Bruins beat the Flyers. Point out to baby all the moves made by the goalies. Point out that Tim Thomas has no form, but that spontaneity is what makes him successful. Answer emails.
(Some 60 second interval between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM, eat dinner made by husband.)
9:30 PM – 11:00 PM: Feed baby. Change baby. Answer emails. Turn on Houston Astros or Los Angeles Dodgers game if Vin Scully is announcing. Put baby to bed.
11:00 PM – 11:30 PM: Switch to the news. Shower if baby is actually asleep.
11:30 PM: Crawl into bed. Switch back to ballgame. Check emails one last time.
11:30 PM – 12:00 AM: Stare at the ceiling while husband snores.
12:00 AM: Fall asleep.
