Atalasoft requires that each developer compiling with a reference to DotImage must have an SDK license. This is the case even if the developer is not writing any imaging code and is only invoking code that accesses DotImage functionality. However, there are cases when a developer is running only parts of the code with DotImage references that does not use DotImage in any way. In this case the developer does not need a DotImage license. Just remove the licenses.licx (for a windows forms project) and the developer will be able to build and run the application. If an AtalasoftLicenseException is thrown, then the developer is attempting to use DotImage functionality, and an SDK license is required.
When creating production builds, the licenses.licx must be added back to the project in order to embed license files into the EXE. Using an automated build script such as NAnt, or MSBuild makes this process transparent.
